Diner-jacket (fr. “surtout”) – is a wide men’s outerwear. The classic example of it is a double-breasted outerwear with a long polo. Nowadays the diner-jacket is quite modern, but mostly the single-breasted one. The most fashionable tendencies for the diner-jacket are a straight polo, a high button, an English collar, four buttons, tapering polo up to the middle of the thighs. A shirt with a turn-down collar and a four-in-hand tie will perfectly do any diner-jacket.

Smoking-jacket

Smoking-jacket is a club jacket. Earlier it was supposed to be worn to informal meetings with business partners or friendly conversations in clubs. English gentlemen in smoking-jackets set down comfortably at the fire place sipping brandy and smoking cigars. The traditional smoking-jacket is black, it is a jacket open wide on the breast with long lapels decorated with silk black thread. It may be either single-breasted or double-breasted, with the English collar or a shawl collar and two, four or six buttons. Its analogue is the American “dinner-jacket or dinner suit”, it can be white or ivory. The classic black smoking-jacket must be worn together with black pants with stripes of the same kind as the stripes on the lapels of the jacket as the most important detail.

Morning coat

Morning coat is one of the types of tail coat made up by dandies for morning visits. It is well-known that in old time people used to visit each other early in the morning, that’s why a name such as “morning coat” is taking its origin from this tradition. It is a surtout with polo which starts from the waist and goes down (then goes apart on the sides) creating a conical cut-out in the front. The length of the morning coat in the back is up to the knees. This coat should be combined with striped pants, a shirt with a bow tie underneath a classic vest and a plastron tie.

French

French looks like a military jacket that ends on the waist with four patch-pockets and a half-belt in the back.

Coat

Coat is a jacket with extended polo. Last years long cloth-coat made of the same type of fiber as the pants and substituting regular suit-jacket are very popular.

A three-piece suit which consists of a jacket, a vest and pants, is always fashionable. Semifitted jackets, single-breasted with four buttons, the English collar and a high cut-out (such as one can see only the tie-knot) are especially modern.

Vests

Vests are an element of style. Whatever people say, we are accustomed to the three-piece suit most of all. Even if it is considered to be worn to the weddings to which only close relatives are invited and which are not that luxurious and massive, it is not the only variant. The main part of the tree-piece suit is the vest which is not only an element of the decoration of the suit, but also creates an individual image of the person. The vest exactly can turn a traditional suit to the perfection of the style. The real chic is the vest made of the natural silk of different manufacturing.

A closed vest is a regular vest with the closed back part. The fabric of the back part of the vest is sole-colored and much thinner than that of the front parts. In the latest collections there is an adjusting belt on the back of the vest, and the cut-out on the chest is not very deep which is specially designed for the “lavaliere” or “escort” tie. Don’t forget that the fabric of the tie must be the same as the fabric of the front parts of the vest. The color of this detail of the suit can vary. Natural bright colors perfectly do with suits of the same basic color, but they must be a bit darker. Vests of deep warm colors with large ornaments incused on the fabric make contrasts with bright and dark suits.

On an open vest there’s a V-shaped neckline and the lapels taper to the top and make a kink on the neck. In the front the two parts of the vest are made as angles. An open vest got such a name because the back of it is almost absolutely open. A white open vest together with a white bow-tie and a stiffed-front shirt is a set for a tail coat.

A black open vest with a bow-tie and a tail coat is a uniform for maitre-hotels and headwaiters.
